The proposed project, Steamboat Square Revitalization Phase 2, focuses on the rehabilitation and preservation of an historic workforce community in Albany’s South End neighborhood.
This project is a continuation of the vision to revitalize the entire Steamboat Square campus. Through its emphasis on affordability, sustainability and community engagement, Steamboat Square represents a transformative opportunity for the South End neighborhood.

Steamboat Square Revitalization Phase 2 will provide connections to the South End Connector, offer diverse commercial spaces, and prioritize safe and affordable housing.
The Steamboat Square towers, constructed between 1959 and the early 1960's and originally known as Thacher Homes, it is a historic landmark for the South End neighborhood. Complemented by the townhomes built during the 1980's, the project has a focus on preserving its historical architecture.
Upon completion, this project will bring 332 new or rehabilitated units for individuals and families with low and moderate incomes. Current residents are guaranteed the right to return.
